GitHub is no longer just for developers.
More and more business teams now plan, track and automate work on GitHub, and AI agents are starting to handle the repetitive steps in between. The new GitHub Certified: Agentic AI Business Professional certification is built for the people running that work: product managers, program managers, technical project managers and business analysts.
You earn it by passing Exam GH-700: Enhancing Operational Efficiency with Agentic AI, which is currently in beta.
What is agentic AI, in plain words?
A normal AI assistant answers one question at a time. An agentic workflow goes further: the AI takes a multi-step task, works through the steps, and hands you the result. Your job shifts from doing every step to designing the workflow and checking the output.
That second part matters. This certification is as much about human oversight as it is about automation.
What the certification validates
It shows you can use GitHub and GitHub Copilot to:
- Organize and track work in GitHub.
- Produce reliable outputs with GitHub Copilot.
- Build agentic workflows and automations.
- Apply human oversight to review results and manage workflow decisions.
Is it right for you?
Good fit if you are a product manager, program manager, technical project manager or business analyst who uses GitHub and Copilot to improve business outcomes.
You do not need deep coding experience. What you should have is:
- Experience using generative AI.
- Experience managing business projects, products or processes.
- A track record of producing work that meets business requirements.
If you are a developer looking for hands-on Copilot coding skills, this is not that exam. It is aimed at the people who coordinate and decide, not only the people who write the code.
Bonus: 80% off the beta exam
The first 300 candidates who take Exam GH-700 (beta) on or before November 9, 2026 can get 80% off.
- Enter the code GH700B8F5 when prompted for payment during registration. It is not a private access code.
- Seats are first come, first served, and you must take the exam by November 9, 2026.
- The discount is not available in Turkey, Pakistan, India or China.
How to prepare
- Read the Exam GH-700 (beta) exam page and study guide to see every topic covered.
- Get hands-on: organize a real project in GitHub, then try Copilot on a few of your everyday tasks and review what it produces.
- Practice an agentic workflow end to end, and note where a human check belongs.
- Look for a Microsoft Training Services Partner near you if you prefer in-person learning.
- Read Microsoft's guidance on how to prepare for beta exams.
Things to know about beta exams
- Results take time. Beta rescoring begins when the exam goes live, and final results arrive about 10 days later.
- General availability is expected in December 2026.
- You can sit it from home. Exams can be taken online with a proctor, from home or the office.
My take
Business teams that learn to delegate to agents, and to review what comes back, will move faster than teams that only chat with AI. A certification will not replace real project experience, but it is a clear way to show you can do both. With 80% off for the first 300 seats, the beta is a low-risk way to try.
